Landings
Feet apart, steps, low landings, falls and the stick bonus.
Unofficial summary. The FIG Code of Points and its newsletters are the authority; every rule links to its page there.

A Prepared Landing
A correct landing is prepared. The gymnast has finished the rotation and opened the body before he touches down. A landing that only happens to end standing is not correct.
Dismounts, and the end of a floor exercise or a vault, finish standing with the legs together.
- Lack of extension in preparation for landing−0.1or−0.3
Faults in the flight phase of the salto are also deducted. These deductions are in addition to the landing deductions.

Feet Apart
After any salto, the feet may land up to 10 cm apart for safety. This is enough to bring the heels together. The gymnast closes the feet by lifting only the heels. The front of each foot stays where it landed.
- Up to 10 cm, closed by lifting the heels onlyNone
- Up to 10 cm or under shoulder width, and a foot is picked up to close them — or they are not closed by the heels−0.1
- Wider than the shoulders, and a foot is picked up to close them — or they are not closed at all−0.3
If the feet land more than 10 cm apart, the 0.1 or 0.3 is taken even if the heels are then brought together. The arms stay controlled the whole time, with no unnecessary swings.

Steps and Hops
- Unsteadiness, a small adjustment of the feet, or excessive arm swings−0.1
- Small step or small hop — up to one foot length−0.1each
- Large step or large hop — more than one foot length−0.3each
- Touching the mat with one or both hands−0.3
Together, the deductions for all the steps and hops on one landing are at most 1.0.

Low Landing
- Hips below the knees−0.5

Falls
- Fall, or support on one or both hands−1.0
- Fall without the feet touching the mat first−1.0NR
With a fall, the deductions for every step, touch or support before it, the low landing and the fall are at most 1.0 together.
All other deductions for the element are still taken: lack of preparation, feet apart, height, extension, an incomplete twist.
If a gymnast ends the exercise without a dismount and lands on his feet on purpose, this is not a fall.
On vault, a fall without the feet touching the mat first makes the vault invalid (0.00).
Newsletter 3, p. 2 · in force from 1 January 2026
The low landing is now inside the 1.0 cap, together with the fall and the steps.
What applied before
The Code capped an element with a fall at 1.0, including every step, touch or support before the fall. It said nothing about a low landing.

Stick Bonus
Given for a dismount valued C or higher, and for any vault with a salto. Never given on pommel horse.
- Stuck — no step and no hop, and the heels and toes do not rise to keep the balance+0.1
- Heels or toes rise to keep the balanceNo bonus
Other deductions, such as legs apart, arm swings or lack of preparation, do not cancel it. The E-Jury deducts those as usual.
On floor and vault it can be awarded together with a line deduction.
Newsletter 3, p. 2 · in force from 1 January 2026
The bonus is now also cancelled when the toes rise, not only the heels.
What applied before
The Code named only the heels.
Newsletter 4, p. 2 · in force from 1 September 2026
On floor and vault, the stick bonus can be given even when there is a line deduction.

Landing Outside the Line
At a floor dismount or a vault. The line judge reports it, and D1 deducts it from the Final Score.
- Lands with the feet apart and one foot out, then has both feet out after closing them−0.3
Newsletter 4, p. 2 · in force from 1 September 2026
Newsletter 4 decides the case where both feet are out after the gymnast closes them.
